Understanding Anxiety
One of the tricks to overcoming anxiety is learning how it works. It's kind of like learning the "trick" behind a magic trick.
Our Thoughts affect how we Feel and how we Feel affects how we React! To change how we feel, we have to first change how we THINK!.
Our brains are designed to release adrenaline when we are stressed, overwhelmed and scared. Adrenaline is what causes the uncomfortable "whoosh" when you get scared! Did you know that even a worried thought, can cause a "whoosh" of anxiety? It' s true!
Sometimes we experience anxiety when we're just THINKING about something that worries us. Our brain sometimes sends false alarms of adrenaline when you are just THINKING negative thoughts. It is SO easy to get caught up in these "thought holes", but when we start to recognize our thoughts, we develop more power over them and can turn off those false adrenaline alarms! We can also learn to listen to our bodies signaling us when it is time to apply some calming skills.
The good news is, when anxiety starts sending us too many "false alarms" our brains can be trained to think and respond differently. Mrs. Barnes can help you learn how to keep anxiety in check!
